SpaceChain – From the Classroom to the ISS 🚀🌍

Back in 2020, I had the privilege of mentoring a student team participating in the European Astro Pi Challenge. Our Python experiment actually ran on a Raspberry Pi aboard the International Space Station – capturing 715 images of Earth! And because we couldn’t resist adding a little blockchain magic, we cryptographically linked the images using SHA-256 hashes. Yes, a hash chain created in space. 😎

Fast forward to 2026: I’ve brought the project back to life with a completely redesigned website. You can follow the ISS orbit, explore all 715 images, inspect their metadata and hash connections, and even browse the original Python source code and mission data. The original idea also included turning the images into NFTs – hence the name SpaceToken. That part remains history, but the experiment itself is still pretty cool!
